The journal focuses on the most significant developments of research with unicellular fungi and is essential reading for those wishing to keep up to date with this rapidly moving field. Topics covered include: - genetics - genomics - molecular biology - cell and developmental biology - systems biology - biochemistry - physiology - pathobiology - biotechnology - ecology - taxonomy - evolution

Virus Research provides a means of rapid publication for original papers on fundamental research concerning virus structure, replication, and pathogenesis. These include reports describing virus morphology, the function and antigenic analysis of virus structural components, virus genome structure and expression, analysis of virus replication processes, effects of viruses on their host cells, including oncogene activation and transduction, neoplastic transformation, and the pathogenesis of virus infections including tumour induction.

Virology publishes the results of basic research in all branches of virology, including the viruses of vertebrates and invertebrates, plants, bacteria, and yeasts/fungi. The journal features articles on the nature of viruses, on the molecular biology of virus multiplication, on molecular pathogenesis, and on molecular aspects of the control and prevention of viral infections.

Systematic and Applied Microbiology deals with various aspects of microbial diversity and systematics of prokaryotes. It focuses on Bacteria and Archaea; eukaryotic microorganisms will only be considered in rare cases. The journal perceives a broad understanding of microbial diversity and encourages the submission of manuscripts from the following branches of microbiology:

The Revista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo (Journal of the São Paulo Institute of Tropical Medicine) is a journal devoted to research on different aspects of tropical infectious diseases. The journal welcomes original work on all infectious diseases, provided that data and results are directly linked to human health. The journal publishes, besides original articles, review articles, case reports, brief communications, and letters to the editor. The journal publishes manuscripts only in English.

Research in Microbiology is the direct descendant of the original Pasteur periodical entitled Annales de l'Institut Pasteur, created in 1887 by Emile Duclaux under the patronage of Louis Pasteur. The Editorial Committee included Chamberland, Grancher, Nocard, Roux and Straus, and the first issue began with Louis Pasteur's "Lettre sur la Rage" which clearly defines the spirit of the journal:"You have informed me, my dear Duclaux, that you intend to start a monthly collection of articles entitled "Annales de l'Institut Pasteur".
